Welcome to the IBWS

The Institute of Human Movement Sciences and Sport (IBWS) is part of the Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST) at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. The IBWS currently consists of four laboratories that conduct research in a broad range of areas related to physical activity and health.

Neural Control Of Movement

Prof. Nicole Wenderoth

ncm

The Neural Control of Movement Lab aims to understand how the brain controls behavior and develop non-invasive interfaces to modulate brain function.

Exercise Physiology

Prof. Christina Spengler

exphys

The Exercise Physiology Lab aims to understand the mechanisms of respiratory, cardiovascular, neuro-muscular and metabolic adaptations to acute and chronic exercise in humans.

Decision Neuroscience

Prof. Rafael Polania

decision neuroscience

The Decision Neuroscience Lab uses behavioral, neuroimaging, brain stimulation and computational modeling methods to understand how humans and animals make everyday decisions.

Anatomy

Prof. David Wolfer

anat

The Laboratory of Anatomy aims to better understand the mechanisms of cognitive function in normal and diseased brains, with a focus on aging and physical activity.

Exercise and Health

Prof. Katrien De Bock

exhealth

The Laboratory of Exercise and Health focuses on the metabolic and molecular interaction between nutrient delivery and nutrient utilisation, and its impact on whole body metabolism.

Regeneration and Movement

Prof. Ori Bar-Nur

regenerative and movement biology

The Regenerative and Movement Biology Lab investigates skeletal muscle regeneration and disease states using direct reprogramming and stem cell-based models.
